Statement of Position on
Climate Change and Climate Solutions

Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Goals

  • Set ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

  • Establish a Climate Advisory Board to provide guidance and recommendations on setting interim GHG reduction targets and monitoring progress toward achieving these goals.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

  • The current Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) target shall be raised to at least 50% of the state's energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030 and 100% by 2050.

  • Implement and enforce energy efficiency standards for buildings, appliances, and industrial processes to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable practices.

Transportation and Electric Vehicles

  • Establish financial incentives and support infrastructure development to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, including expanding charging stations across the state.

  • Encourage expanding and improving public transportation systems, promoting low-emission vehicles, and reducing reliance on individual car use.

Climate Resilience and Adaptation

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of climate change’s impacts on Nevada's ecosystems, water resources, infrastructure, and vulnerable communities. Use the findings to develop adaptation strategies.

  • Preserve and restore critical ecosystems, such as wetlands and forests, to enhance resilience and protect biodiversity.

  • Support initiatives that enhance community capacity to adapt to climate change impacts, including public education programs, emergency response planning, and infrastructure resilience projects.

Green Jobs and Economic Development

  • Invest in training programs and apprenticeships to develop a skilled workforce for clean energy industries, creating job opportunities and supporting economic growth.

  • Provide tax incentives and grants to businesses that adopt sustainable practices, invest in renewable energy, and reduce their carbon footprint.

  • Establish partnerships between the state government, universities, and private sector entities to promote research and development in clean technologies, foster innovation, and drive economic growth.

Education and Public Awareness

  • Integrate climate change education into school curricula at all levels, ensuring students have the knowledge and skills to understand and address climate change.

  • Launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the impacts of climate change, the importance of reducing emissions, and the benefits of sustainable practices.
