Urban, At-Risk, Low Performing Schools

This statement of position seeks to address the educational disparities faced by at-risk urban schools by providing additional resources, support, and opportunities for improvement. Our position aims to bridge the achievement gap and create an equitable learning environment for students attending schools in urban areas.

 

Resource Allocation

Increased Funding

  • Allocate additional federal funding specifically designated for at-risk urban schools based on factors such as student population, socioeconomic status, and academic performance.

  • Ensure that funding is distributed equitably to support targeted interventions and initiatives.

  • Technology and Infrastructure Upgrades

  • Provide grants to urban schools to upgrade technology infrastructure and ensure access to modern educational tools.

  • Support the installation of high-speed internet connections, provide devices for students, and improve computer labs and classroom technology.

 

Support Services

Wraparound Services

  • Establish comprehensive wraparound services that address the diverse needs of students in at-risk urban schools.

  • Provide resources for mental health counseling, social work support, and academic intervention programs.

  • Parent and Community Engagement

  • Promote partnerships between schools, parents, and community organizations to foster a supportive and engaged learning environment.

  • Allocate funds for parent education programs, workshops, and activities that enhance parental involvement in their children's education.

 

Professional Development

Provide funding for targeted professional development programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers and school staff in addressing the unique challenges faced by at-risk urban schools.

Curriculum and Instruction

Enriched Curriculum Offerings
